Moya ousted from Cincinnati tennis

CINCINNATI, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Fouth-deeded Carlos Moya of Spain suffered his third consecutive first-round loss in as many weeks Monday at the Tennis Masters Series Cincinnati.

The defending champion was ousted by Frenchman Fabrice Santoro, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Since winning the Umag title last month, Moya, seventh ranked in the world, made early exits at Sopot two weeks ago and Montreal last week.

Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu went on to create another upset, ousting No. 15 Tommy Robredo of Spain, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Making his next to last stop before retiring at the U.S. Open, Michael Chang had another disastrous day on his farewell tour, losing 4-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-0to Hicham Arazi of Morocco.

Britain's Greg Rusedski was responsible for the other upset of the day, scoring a 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 win over No. 12 Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic.
