TORONTO, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- The Toronto Blue Jays have released pitcher Scott Service and recalled catcher Kevin Cash from Triple-A Syracuse of the International League.
Service, claimed off waivers from Arizona on June 16, had no record and a 4.50 ERA in 15 relief appearances with the Blue Jays. He was 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA in 18 games with Arizona.
Cash, who has not been up this season, was hitting .270 with eight homers and 37 RBI in 93 games at Syracuse.
"I expect to catch him at least two or three times a week, let him get his feet wet," said Manager Carlos Tosca. "There are some guys here that he's caught -- (Mark) Hendrickson, (Corey) Thurman, (Josh) Towers. We're getting ready to play a ballclub that has a great deal of speed. Kevin's going to be part of our future, and basically we want to take a look at him."
