Talaja upsets Schnyder in Helsinki

HELSINKI, Finland, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Croatia's Silvija Talaja beat Switzerland's Patty Schnyder on Tuesday at the Nordea Nordic Light Open.

Talaja ousted the top seed, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, in the opening round.

Talaja next faces Zuzana Ondraskova of the Czech Republic, who crushed local wild card Emma Laine, 6-1, 6-1.

Fourth seed Petra Mandula routed Antonella Serra Zanetti of Italy, 6-1, 6-2, and fellow Hungarian Melinda Czink eliminated Argentine Clarissa Fernandez, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

Second seed Anna Pistolesi of Israel, who captured her first title of the year Sunday at Sopot, was to have played Czech qualifier Jana Hlavackova, but the match was postponed until Wednesday because of rain.

Germany's Barbara Rittner defeated Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden, 7-5, 6-4 and Slovakian Henrieta Nagyova beat Klara Koukalova of the Czech Republic, 6-0, 5-7, 6-4.
