PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Derrick Coleman will continue to be a member of the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Tuesday that the veteran 6-10 forward has signed a new two-year contract with the team. The paper reported sources as saying the deal could be worth $10-$12 million.
"It's a done deal," one source close to both Coleman and Philadelphia President/General Manager Billy King told the paper. "DC will be in Philadelphia."
The center/power forward averaged 9.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest in 64 regular-season games in 2002-2003, and in the playoffs, he was better, averaging 13.6 points and 8.0 boards in 12 contests.
Coleman, who also has played for New Jersey and Charlotte, has played 742 games since being the first overall choice in the 1990 draft out of Syracuse, averaging 17.0 points and 9.5 rebounds.
The Sixers needed to re-sign Coleman because their chief Eastern Conference rivals, New Jersey and Milwaukee, both made significant frontcourt signings this offseason.
