Kansas City 2, Tampa Bay 0

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Jimmy Gobble pitched six innings in his major league debut and Aaron Guiel hit an inside-the-park homer Sunday as Kansas City beat Tampa Bay, 2-0.

Gobble (1-0) allowed six hits and one walk and became the first Kansas City pitcher to win his major league debut since Glendon Rusch in 1997.

The 22-year-old lefthander left after allowing a leadoff double to Damian Rolls in the seventh. Curt Leskanic retired the only three batters he faced before Jeremy Affeldt tossed two perfect innings for his first career save.

Kansas City's Joe Randa hit a solo homer in the first inning and Guiel added his inside-the-park homer in the third after hitting a ground ball into the right field corner.

Tampa Bay's Jeremi Gonzalez (4-5) took the loss despite allowing just two runs and four hits in his first complete game of the season.
