Vickers wins Busch Series Kroger 200

CLERMONT, Ind., Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Brian Vickers captured his first career NASCAR Busch Series victory Saturday night, by leading theg final 20 laps to take the Kroger 200.

The 19-year-old Vickers, a three-time National Karting champion, had pole-sitter Shane Hmiel and Scott Wimmer chasing down his Chevrolet Monte Carlo before the two pursuers made contact with less than two laps to go and slid sideways.

Vickers' best showing this season had been a runner-up at the GNC 250 in Milwaukee in June.

Jason Keller drove right by the sliding cars to take second place behind Vickers and Stacy Compton also benefited to move into third.

While Hmiel quickly recovered to finish fourth, Wimmer dropped outside the top 10. Hmiel led 153 of 200 laps.

Series points leader Scott Riggs started 19th but showed his skills by making up the ground. He moved past David Green during the incident and finished fifth.
