CARSON, Calif., Aug. 2 (UPI) -- The best of Major League Soccer beat the Chivas Guadalajara of Mexico 3-1 Saturday in the 2003 All-Star Game.

After a spirited but scoreless first half, Ante Razov scored the opening goal in the 57th minute after a combination

between Landon Donovan and Mauricio Cienfuegos.

Donovan started the play on the left side into a tight space to Cienfuegos, who gave the ball right back to an overlapping Donovan down the flank. Goalkeeper Oswaldo Snachez rushed forward to unsuccesfully block the attack.

The lead lasted eight minutes as Jair Garcia equalized with a well-timed run around MLS goalkeeper Kevin Hartman.

Carlos Ruiz, named the Most Valuable Player after the match, netted the winner two minutes later. Chicago Fire defender Carlos Bocanegra curled a ball over the top to Ruiz as the Guatemalan striker raced down the middle.

DaMarcus Beasley added an insurance goal with seven minutes remaining.
