Doyle leads FleetBoston Classic

CONCORD, Mass., Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Allen Doyle shot an 8-under-par 63 Saturday to set a tournament record and take a two-shot lead after two rounds of the FleetBoston Classic.

Doyle went through the front nine in just 29 strokes and sits at 11-under 131 at the $1.5 million Champions Tour event.

Starting the day at 3-under, he birdied the first three holes and picked up strokes at Nos. 5, 8 and 9. The Rhode Island native bogeyed the 12th but birdied three of the next five. His round Saturday was one better than the previous record.

Defending champion Bob Gilder carded a 65 to move to 9-under 133, moving into a tie for second with James Mason, who shot a 66.

First-round leader Bruce Fleisher was one of five tied at 135.

In a new format, six National Hockey League stars advanced to Sunday's final round.
