CARSON, Calif., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- The eighth annual MLS All-Star Game features a new format Saturday as the league's best players take on the Mexican club Chivas.
The game is expected to pack the 27,000-seat Home Depot Stadium outside Los Angeles as Chivas faces an MLS team for the third time. The legendary Mexican club battled to a 2-2 tie with D.C. United at the 1997 CONCACAF Champions Cup and defeated the MetroStars, 3-1, last year in a friendly at Giants Stadium.
More than half the players on the MLS roster have seen action with the United States National team this year. Frankie Hejduk, Carlos Bocanegra, DaMarcus Beasley, Landon Donovan and Clint Mathis competed in both the Confederations and Gold Cups while Dan Califf, Chris Armas, Kyle Martino and Taylor Twellman were in France for the Confederations Cup squad.
