DENVER, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Andre Miller will be the starting point guard for Denver next season after the Los Angeles Clippers failed to match the Nuggets' offer sheet on Thursday.
The offer sheet to Miller, a four-year veteran, was $51 million over six years, and according to the Rocky Mountain News, includes a $10 million signing bonus. It appears the Clippers did not have enough money left to retain Miller after matching offers to Elton Brand and Corey Maggette.
They shelled out $82 million for Brand and $42 million to Maggette. Like Miller, both were restricted free agents.
"We're very happy," Denver General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe told the paper. "We secured probably our biggest need. We got a young point guard in the prime of his career who is definitely a top-10 point guard."
Miller, the eighth overall pick in the 1999 draft out of Utah, has career averages of 14.3 points, 7.9 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game in 325 contests.
