GRAND BLANC, Mich., July 31 (UPI) -- Mike Sposa, who has just one top-10 finish this season, seized the first-round lead Thursday at the Buick Open.
Sposa shot a 6-under-par 30 over the final nine holes for a 7-under 65 that was one stroke better than Australian Paul Gow, Carl Paulson, Craig Perks and David Sutherland.
A crowded leaderboard had 10 players tied for sixth at 67, including Hunter Mahon.
Woods started on the back nine and was even-par through 12 holes. He birdied three of the last six but finished the day with 31 putts.
