St. Louis 11, Montreal 1

MONTREAL, July 30 (UPI) -- Claudio Vargas gave up seven runs in the first and Dan Haren tossed seven scoreless frames Wednesday night as St. Louis cruised past Montreal, 11-1.

After Bo Hart opened the game with a flyout to left field, Vargas allowed seven consecutive batters to reach. He issued consecutive walks to J.D. Drew and Albert Pujols before Tino Martinez began the rout with an RBI single.

Scott Rolen walked to load the bases and Pujols and Martinez scored on a double by Edgar Renteria. Vargas (6-7) loaded the bases again by hitting Kerry Robinson and Mike Matheny followed with a bases-clearing two-base hit.

Haren (2-2) allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out four.
