WESTMINSTER, Md., July 30 (UPI) -- The Baltimore Ravens have signed one of their two first-round draft picks, agreeing to a five-year contract with linebacker Terrell Suggs on Tuesday.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Suggs was projected as a top-five pick, but he had a lackluster personal workout for the scouts and slipped to 10th overall.
A speed-rusher, Suggs shattered the NCAA record for sacks in a season with 24, and won the Lombardi Trophy as the nation's best lineman last year as a junior. In three seasons with Arizona State, he started 34 of 36 games, recording 43 sacks and 163 tackles.
After playing defensive end in college, Suggs will be moved to linebacker to play alongside Ray Lewis and Peter Boulware.
"Had this dragged out any longer, he would have likely not have been able to participate in Friday's scrimmage," said Coach Brian Billick.
Baltimore's other first-round pick, quarterback Kyle Boller, remains unsigned. Boller was selected 19th overall after the Ravens acquired the pick from New England in a draft-day trade.
