Boston 14, Texas 7

ARLINGTON, Texas, July 29 (UPI) -- Bill Mueller of Boston made major league baseball history Tuesday night in a 14-7 rout of Texas.

Mueller had two grand slams among his three home runs and drove in a career-high nine runs, helping the Red Sox win for the eighth time in 10 games.

He hit a solo homer in the third inning. The slams came in the seventh and eighth innings, making him the first player ever to hit them from both sides of the plate in the same contest.

He was the 12th time a player to hit two grand slams in one game, and first since teammate Nomar Garciaparra did it on May 10, 1999 against Seattle.

His career-best three homers in a game tied the club record, also done most recently by Garciaparra against Tampa Bay on July 23, 2002.

Knuckleball specialist Tim Wakefield (8-5) was the beneficiary of the power display, while Rosman Garcia (1-1) took the loss.
