Grant, who was a member of three NBA champions teams with the Chicago Bulls, was a starter for the Lakers in 2000-01, averaging 8.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest in 77 games.

The 6-10, 245-pounder signed with Orlando following the Lakers' second straight title, but last season, he played in only five games for Orlando before being waived on Dec. 11. He was hampered by a sore left knee after undergoing surgery.

The 10th overall pick by the Bulls in the 1987 draft has averaged 11.5 points and 8.3 rebounds in 1,110 regular-season games, and also has appeared in 170 playoff games.

The Lakers, who won three straight NBA titles before losing to eventual champion San Antonio in the Western Conference semifinals in May, signed a pair of perennial All-Stars two weeks ago, point guard Gary Payton and forward Karl Malone.
