NEW ORLEANS, July 29 (UPI) -- Veteran point guard Darrell Armstrong, an unrestricted free agent, Tuesday signed with New Orleans.

Terms of the contract were not released, but various reports said it was for two years.

Armstrong, a nine-year NBA veteran, was the last player left from the 1995 Orlando team that made the NBA Finals. One of the Magic's most popular players, he averaged 11.7 points and 5.1 assists while shooting 41.9 percent from the field and 88.8 percent from the free throw line in 502 games with Orlando.

"Darrell really improves our roster for the upcoming season with his energy and great athletic ability that have made him such an effective player in this league over the years," said New Orleans General Manager Bob Bass.

With the Hornets, Armstrong will spell overworked starter Baron Davis, who missed 32 games last season because of chronic back spasms and knee problems.

Armstrong, 35, was not drafted out of Fayetteville State. He was signed by Orlando in April 1995.
