Kansas City 5, Detroit 1

DETROIT, July 27 (UPI) -- Jose Lima yielded four hits in five scoreless innings for his seventh straight victory Sunday as Kansas City defeated Detroit, 5-1.

Lima (7-0), who is in the midst of his longest winning streak since an eight-game run for the Houston Astros in 1999, became the first Kansas City pitcher to win seven consecutive decisions since David Cone accomplished the feat in 1994.

Lima was taken out after five frames as a precautionary measure to avoid aggravating a groin injury.

Angel Berroa and Desi Relaford homered for the Royals, who had lost four of their previous six games.

Kansas City took the lead for good on Carlos Beltran's first-inning sacrifice fly against Detroit starter Mike Maroth (5-15), who leads the major leagues in losses.
