Detroit 81, Washington 71

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., July 27 (UPI) -- Swin Cash scored 25 points and Deanna Nolan added 17 Sunday as the Detroit Shock defeated the Washington Mystics, 81-71.

After holding a 41-39 lead at halftime, Detroit used a 12-0 run early in the second half to take command. Ruth Riley scored six points during the spurt, which gave the Shock a 60-47 advantage with 11:22 left.

The Mystics got within 66-62 on Jocelyn Penn's basket with 3:48 remaining. But Cheryl Ford answered with a three-point play and Nolan made four free throws.

Kedra Holland-Corn contributed 12 points and Ford added 11 and 14 rebounds for the Shock.

Detroit also welcomed back its all-time leading scorer. Astou Ndiaye-Diatta, who started the season on the injured list after giving birth to triplets in April.

Chamique Holdsclaw had 27 points and 11 rebounds and Murriel

Page scored 17 points for the Mystics.
