USA Pan Am basketball team named

ORLANDO, Fla., July 25 (UPI) -- Center Emeka Okafor and guard Ben Gordon of Connecticut were among the dozen players named Friday to the United States Pan American Games team.

Missouri center Arthur Johnson and guard Ricky Paulding also joined the squad.

The roster was announced by United States coach Tom Izzo of Michigan State following six days of training.

"This is definitely one of the toughest decisions I have ever faced," Izzo said. "We had so many players that could have made the team and probably deserved to make it, but you can only have 12."

Also selected were guards Andre Barrett of Seton Hall, Chris Hill of Michigan State, Luke Jackson of Oregon, Brandon Mouton of Texas and Blake Stepp of Gonzaga, forwards Josh Childress of Stanford, Ike Diogu of Arizona State and Chuck Hayes of Kentucky.

The Pan American Games will be held Aug. 2-6 in the Dominican Republic.
