Rosie Jones leads Evian Masters

EVIAN-LES-BAINES, France, July 24 (UPI) -- Rosie Jones grabbed the lead Thursday midway through the Evian Masters, firing a 4-under-par 68 for a one-stroke edge over rookie sensation Lorena Ochoa.

Seeking her second win of the season, Jones reached 9-under 135 at the Evian Masters Golf Club. She was a stroke better than Ochoa and two ahead of Juli Inkster and Sophie Gustafson of Sweden.

Jones has been having problems with her swing, but she has mastered greens she described as "tricky" and "temperamental." The best putter on tour, Jones has needed only 52 putts through 36 holes.

Jones played with Ochoa and Inkster, who shared the lead after opening-round 66s. Ochoa shot a 70 and Inkster struggled to a 72 in the final tuneup for next week's Women's British Open.

Hee-Won Han of Korea, who won last week's Sybase Big Apple Classic, shared fifth place.
