NEW YORK, July 22 (UPI) -- The New York Yankees bolstered their bullpen Tuesday by acquiring lefthander Jesse Orosco from the San Diego Padres.
New York will send cash considerations or a player to be named to the Padres.
The 46-year-old Orosco has pitched in 1,229 games since his debut in 1979, the most in major league history. This season, he is 1-1 with a 7.56 ERA but has held lefthanded hitters to a .228 batting average. He has allowed just one hit in his last eight appearances.
Orosco spent his first nine years in New York with the Mets, saving Game 7 of the 1986 World Series. Since then he also has pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers, Baltimore Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals, as well as the Padres.
