A 6-10 lefthander who played in the NBA for four seasons before turning to baseball, Hendrickson (6-6) yielded four singles and a double with two walks and two strikeouts. It was his first win in four starts and just his second victory since May 16.

Wells made things easy for the Blue Jays' starter, hitting solo homers in the fifth and eighth innings around an RBI single in the sixth. Eric Hinske had two hits and drove in two runs for Toronto.

It was another rough outing for Yankees starter Jeff Weaver (5-8) who surrendered five runs and 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings.
