Making his seventh start for the Devil Rays, Bell blanked the Angels until the eighth inning, when Adam Kennedy and David Eckstein delivered back-to-back doubles. Al Levine came out of the bullpen and avoided further trouble.

All-Star Lance Carter failed to pick up his 17th save, allowing a sacrifice fly to Jeff Davanon in the ninth that got Anaheim within 3-2. Travis Harper retired Bengie Molina on a groundout for his second career save and first since June 14, 2002.
