Celtics re-sign McCarty

BOSTON, July 20 (UPI) -- The Boston Celtics have re-signed veteran forward Walter McCarty, one of only two members of the team to play in all 82 games last season.

Terms were not disclosed, but the Boston Herald reported that McCarty agreed to a three-year deal worth about $3.5 million.

"We are thrilled to have Walter back as a member of the Boston Celtics," said Director of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge. "He's been an important part of what this team accomplished the past few seasons, and we feel he will be an integral part of what we hope to achieve in the future."

The Celtics lost to New Jersey in the Eastern Conference finals two years ago and again to the Nets in the conference semifinals last season.

The 6-10 McCarty, 29, is a seven-year veteran who has averaged 6.1 points and 3.5 rebounds in 23.8 minutes last season. He was acquired from New York in October 1997.
