The rookie center fielder stroked singles in his first three at bats before launching a 1-0 pitch from Tim Drew (0-2) over the left-center field fence with two outs to produce Philadelphia's sixth win in seven games.

Byrd's heroics made a winner of Dan Plesac (2-0), who tossed a perfect 11th.

Orlando Cabrera extended his hitting streak to 12 games and Ron Calloway went two for four with an RBI for the Expos, who have dropped eight of their last 10 contests.
