Rangers trade Urbina to Florida

ARLINGTON, Texas, July 11 (UPI) -- The last-place Texas Rangers continued their purge Friday, sending closer Ugueth Urbina and cash to Florida for three Class AA prospects.

Urbina, who leads the AL with 26 saves, goes back to the National League with the rest of his one-year, $4.5 million contract. He goes from the seventh highest-paid player on Texas' payroll to third with the normally frugal Marlins.

It is the second major move in 11 days for the Rangers, who sent All-Star outfielder Carl Everett and the remainder of his $9.15 million contract to the Chicago White Sox on July 1.

Texas also tried trading slugger Juan Gonzalez to the Montreal Expos two weeks ago, but the veteran nixed the deal. Gonzalez makes more than $13 million this season.
