TORONTO, July 11 (UPI) -- Bruno Junqueira used his final run under threatening skies Friday to claim the provisional pole for the Champ Car World Series Molson Indy Toronto.
Junqueira secured himself a front row position and picked up an extra point, giving the Brazilian 110 in the standings. He trails local favorite and series leader Paul Tracy by seven points.
Junqueira took a chance on the rain holding off and was virtually alone on the track as he made his final run, bumping Tracy almost four-tenths of a second. He ran a lap at 106.210 miles per hour in his Ford/Lola, covering the 1 3/4-mile street circuit in 59.486 seconds.
Also in a Ford/Lola, Tracy was the only other driver to eclipse the one-minute mark. He had the pole for most of the session.
