NEW YORK, July 10 (UPI) -- Jim Thome hit one of three homers off Steve Trachsel in the first two innings Thursday night as Philadelphia coasted past the New York Mets, 7-2.
Vicente Padilla pitched effectively before being lifted in the ninth.
Mike Lieberthal and Nick Punto also homered for the Phillies, who have won three straight following a four-game losing streak.
Since signing with the Mets in 2001, Trachsel had been 5-2 in eight starts against Philadelphia, including a 5-0 win at Veterans Stadium on May 29. But he lasted just 1 2/3 innings in his shortest outing since retiring one batter and yielding six runs for Tampa Bay against Seattle three years ago.
Trachsel (8-6) was down 4-0 before retiring a batter, equaling the number of runs he allowed in winning his previous three starts.
