MetroStars 3, DC UNited 2 (OT)

WASHINGTON, July 5 (UPI) -- Eddie Gaven scored with a minute remaining Saturday to give the undermanned MetroStars a wild 3-2 MLS victory over D.C. United.

After regulation, Metros Coach Bob Bradley moved scoreeeper Tim Howard into the field and replaced him with Mark Lisi, who gave way to Gaven. The strategy paid off as Gaven ran onto a ball from Amado Guevara on the left side, held off defender Ryan Nelsen and hooked a shot past goalkeeper Nick Rimando.
