Three-way tie at European Open

DUBLIN, Ireland, July 3 (UPI) -- Phillip Price, Alastair Forsyth and Retief Goosen all shot 6-under 66 Thursday that left them tied for the lead after one round of the European Open.

Darren Clarke, however, grabbed much of the attention with his round of 67 that included an errant shot which struck the wife of U.S. Open runner-up Stephen Leaney on the head.

The ball bounced off a tree and then hit Tracey Leaney. The tournament's medical staff kept her under observation for two hours before allowing her to return to her hotel room.

"She's six months pregnant as well, so it wasn't a nice moment," Clarke said. "It's always horrible hitting anybody and when we were walking up there to see her lying on the ground it was terrible."

Gary Murphy, Andrew Coltart, Fredrik Andersson and Soren Hansen also shot 67.
