DENVER, July 2 (UPI) -- The Colorado Rockies have sent starting pitcher Shawn Chacon to the 15-day disabled list because of tendinitis in his right elbow.
Chacon (11-4, 4.27 ERA) could not get his elbow loose during his last start Sunday, when he lasted just four innings and gave up six runs and six hits in a 9-0 loss at Pittsburgh.
An MRI on Monday revealed no structural damage.
"We need to shut him down," said Manager Clint Hurdle. "We need to get this arm back healthy for him, for us. If it has ramifications where he doesn't get invited to the All-Star Game, that's very unfortunate."
Chacon, 25, is one of the biggest surprises in baseball this season. He already has matches his career win total this season, and has the best ERA of any Colorado starter.
His roster spot was filled by Denny Stark, who had no decision Tuesday night in the win over Arizona in his first start of the season.
