Dodgers put Jordan on DL

LOS ANGELES, July 2 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have put veteran outfielder Brian Jordan on the 15-day disabled list because of a continuing left knee ailment.

Jordan went to Vail, Colo., to noted surgeon Richard Steadman, who specializes in knee injuries, to get a second opinion. He concurred with Los Angeles medical personnel that Jordan has a strained patella tendon, the same one on which he had surgery last October.

Manager Jim Tracy was asked if Steadman recommended surgery.

"He did not, although he didn't rule it out," said Tracy. "It's a possibility. I don't know how much it was discussed, but it hasn't been ruled out."

Jordan, 36, will be a free agent after the season and the Dodgers are hoping he does not need surgery before then. He was hurt June 24 against San Francisco, and is batting hitting .229 with six homers and 28 RBI in 66 games.

His roster spot was filled by first baseman Fred McGriff, who missed 14 games with a strained groin muscle.
