Astros put Rosario on DL

HOUSTON, July 2 (UPI) -- The Houston Astros late Tuesday placed righthander Rodrigo Rosario on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday, with tendinitis.

Rosario made his major league debut against Texas on June 21, notching a win after allowing one earned run and four hits in six innings. The rookie was not as fortunate in his second start, lasting just two innings before leaving with a sore shoulder.

Rosario is the seventh player put on the Astros' DL since righthander Roy Oswalt began the march on May 18. That list includes second baseman Jeff Kent, who may not be ready to return this week.

To replace Rosario on the roster, the Astros recalled righthander Brandon Puffer from Triple-A New Orleans of the Pacific Coast League.

In 11 appearances with Houston earlier this season, Puffer posted a 4.95 ERA. He yielded 11 earned runs and 21 hits with 16 walks and 10 strikeouts in 20 innings.

Puffer is 2-2 lifetime with a 4.55 ERA in 66 games.
