Grunfeld resigns from Bucks

MILWAUKEE, June 29 (UPI) -- The stage is set for the migration of Ernie Grunfeld.

In a statement, the Milwaukee Bucks announced Sunday that an agreement has been reached that allows the team's general manager to "immediately pursue other job opportunities."

WTEM Radio and ESPN.com have reported that Grunfeld will assume a similar position with the Washington Wizards, where Wes Unseld is leaving.

"I have one year left on my contract and the Bucks graciously have allowed me to resign and seek other employment," Grunfeld said. "I appreciate that. I have been treated well in Milwaukee, and we have had success. I wish only the best for the Bucks and Sen. (Herbert) Kohl in the future."

Grunfeld, the 11th overall pick by Milwaukee in the 1977 NBA Draft, has been its GM four years.

It also has been reported that a conglomerate headed by former NBA great Michael Jordan has reached an agreement to buy the Bucks, who are for sale.
