Unheralded Johnson has one-shot lead

MEMPHIS, June 28 (UPI) -- Rookie Richard Johnson, a native of Sweden, shot 2-under-par 69 Saturday to grab a one-shot lead after the third round of the St. Jude Classic.

The 26-year-old Johnson, who never played in a PGA Tour event before finishing 11th at last year's qualifying tournament, completed 54 holes at 14-under 199.

Sixteen players are within four shots of the lead, with David Toms second and Tim Herron, Lee Janzen, David Peoples and Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson tied for third at 201.

Johnson earned one win in three years on the European Tour. He captured the ANZ Championship last year, when he finished 60th on the money list.

Toms is a winner of eight events, including the 2001 PGA Championship. He ranks eighth on the money list with $2,351,640. He surged from a tie for ninth after posting a 6-under 65.
