NY Mets 6, Florida 3

NEW YORK, June 25 (UPI) -- A two-run single by rookie Jose Reyes snapped a sixth-inning tie Wednesday night and carried the New York Mets past Florida, 6-3.

Considered New York's top positional prospect, Reyes had committed errors that led to runs in each of his last two games. But the 20-year-old shortstop bounced back Wednesday night, driving in three runs in a game for the third time in 14 games.

After an RBI single in the second inning, Reyes delivered a two-run base hit off Florida starter Mark Redman (5-3) in the sixth.

After Reyes gave New York the lead, Armando Benitez made it stand up.

Booed as he entered from the bullpen, Benitez struck out two in the eighth - preventing any of the inherited runners from scoring - and retired the side in the ninth for his 18th save in 23 opportunities.
