Expos try to lure Gonzalez

ARLINGTON, Texas, June 25 (UPI) -- Montreal General Manager Omar Minaya attempted Wednesday to talk Juan Gonzalez into accepting a trade to the Expos.

There was no immediate indication as to whether he had succeeded.

The Expos and Texas Rangers have worked out a trade that would send Gonzalez to Canada, but Gonzalez has a no-trade clause in his contract and he initially said he would not change teams.

But Minaya attempted to change the slugger's mind Wednesday. Gonzalez was held out of the Rangers' starting lineup Wednesday night as a precaution.

"It's part of baseball," Texas Manager Buck Showalter said before his team's game against Oakland. "Whatever is a good fit for Juan. He has the power to say yes or no and we'll support him either way."
