After the first, Zambrano allowed at least one batter to reach base in every inning. But Joe Borowski struck out one in a perfect ninth for his 15th save in 17 chances.

Bartolo Colon limited the Cubs to three hits through seven innings but was replaced by Damaso Marte when Baker pulled Zambrano for pinch hitter Troy O'Leary leading off the eighth.

Colon, who went at least eight innings in six of his previous eight starts, threw 97 pitches.
