ARLINGTON, Texas, June 21 (UPI) -- Jeff Bagwell and Richard Hidalgo made Rodrigo Rosario's major league debut a smooth one Saturday night.
Bagwell fell a triple short of the cycle and drove in three runs and Hidalgo homered, doubled twice and scored three times as the Houston Astros posted a 9-5 triumph over the Texas Rangers.
Rosario (1-0), who was recalled Tuesday from Class AAA New Orleans to replace injured Roy Oswalt, yielded two runs - one earned - and four hits in six innings.
Houston got off to a quick start when Craig Biggio homered on Ismael Valdes' first pitch of the game. It was Biggio's 32nd career leadoff home run.
Valdes (6-3) surrendered eight runs and 10 hits in four-plus innings.
Hank Blalock had a solo homer and Rafael Palmeiro a two-run shot. Palmeiro's homer was the 505th of his career, moving him into 18th place on the all-time list.
