Broadhurst leads European Tour event

PERTHSHIRE, Scotland, June 20 (UPI) -- Former Ryder Cup star Paul Broadhurst survived another day of bad weather Friday with a 4-under 68 that put him one shot in front at the Diageo Championship.

The second round also featured the amazing 17 strokes taken by England's Chris Gane at the 18th hole of the Gleneagles course, the second-highest total in European Tour history.

Broadhurst stood at 3-under 141 after two windy days with Soren Kjeldsen of Denmark alone in second place at 142.

After becoming one of the leading players in Europe, Broadhurst has suffered from wrist problems over the past three seasons.

Boardhurst closed with four birdies in the last seven holes Friday.

Brad Kennedy of Austria shot a 72 and Rolf Muntz carded a 70 to share third place at 142.
