AL coaches named for All-Star Game

NEW YORK, June 18 (UPI) -- Minnesota's Ron Gardenhire and Jerry Manuel of the Chicago White Sox were named Wednesday as American League coaches for the 2003 All-Star Game.

They were chosen by AL Manager Mike Scioscia of the World Series champion Anaheim Angels.

Gardenhire is in his second season as manager of the Twins and guided them to the AL Central Division title last season.

The White Sox are just 32-38, but Manuel was likely chosen because the game is taking place at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago on July 15.

In other All-Star news, 11-time All-Star Carlton Fisk and eight-time All-Star Tony Oliva were selected as managers for the All-Star Futures Game on July 13 in Chicago. Fisk will mange the U.S. Team and Oliva will manage the World Team.
