SEATTLE, June 13 (UPI) -- Rick Neuheisel has until June 26 to appeal his ouster as football coach at Washington.
The firing process began Thursday when Athletic Director Barbara Hedges said she had no choice. She gave Neuheisel a notice of termination.
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported Wednesday that Neuheisel invested $6,400 and won $12,123 during his two years participating in the NCAA Tournament pools. NCAA bylaw 10.3 prohibits athletic department employees and student-athletes from gambling.
The fact that he lied about interviewing with the San Francisco 49ers job without school official did not help.
The school also is worried about a finding of a lack of institutional control.
Neuheisel, who was terminated under the rules of his contract for just cause, Neuheisel went 33-16 in four years at Washington. He had five years left on his contract.
