EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., June 8 (UPI) -- Tony Parker scored 26 points and Manu Ginobili made two big plays near the end to lead San Antonio to an 84-79 victory over the New Jersey Nets, giving the Spurs a 2-1 lead over the Nets in the best-of-seven NBA Finals.
Kenyon Martin had 23 points and Kerry Kittles had 21 for the Nets, who host the next two games, on Wednesday and Friday nights.
After Parker missed a free throw with San Antonio clinging to a 78-75 lead, Ginobili stole the ball from Kittles. The ball went to Parker, who was fouled but missed two free throws. San Antonio rebounded and Ginobili hit a baseline runner that gave the Spurs an 80-75 lead with 43 seconds left.
Since the Finals went to a 2-3-2 format in 1985, the eight teams that have won Game 3 to snap a 1-1 tie have gone on to the win the title.
