STRASBOURG, France, May 19 (UPI) -- The first round of the Strasbourg Open was postponed Monday due to heavy rain.

The clay courts were drenched by a day-long downpour and play was cancelled by the afternoon. The matches have been rescheduled for Tuesday.

There were four first-round matches scheduled to be played, with fourth seed Eleni Daniilidou of Greece taking on Russia's Lina Krasnoroutskaya; sixth-seeded Vera Zvonerova of Russia going against Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano; Czech Iveta Benesova facing Corina Morariu of the United States; and France's Stephanie Cohen-Aloro squaring off against German Anca Barna.

All remaining qualifying games were completed at nearby indoor courts.
