Arizona 6, Philadelphia 1

PHILADELPHIA, May 13 (UPI) -- Jose Mesa was roughed up in the ninth inning Tuesday night as the Arizona Diamondbacks posted a 6-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Entering the ninth inning in a 1-1 game, the Phillies' closer issued a one-out walk to rookie Lyle Overbay. But after striking out Danny Bautista, Mesa (1-3) failed to get another out.

Barajas fought off an 0-2 pitch and blooped a single into center field and Quinton McCracken followed by lining a base hit up the middle, giving the Diamondbacks a 2-1 lead. Alex Cintron singled to load the bases.

With Junior Spivey at the plate, Mesa uncorked a wild pitch that allow Barajas to score. Spivey followed with a two-run single to chase Mesa and Luis Gonzalez capped the inning with an RBI double.

Mesa, who entered the contest with a respectable 3.86 ERA, saw it rise to 6.35 after his worst outing of the season.

Mike Koplove (1-0) got the final two outs of the bottom of the eighth for the win.
