Haywood, the fifth leading rusher ever at Iowa State, spent last year on the Dallas practice squad after signing as a free agent. He was not chosen in the 2002 draft.
He took part in the team's three-day minicamp last week and coaches had indicated he had a realistic chance to make this year's roster.
