Two Georgia players reinstated

ATHENS, Ga., May 8 (UPI) -- Georgia forward Chris Daniels and guard Rashad Wright had their eligibility restored Thursday by the NCAA.

Both seniors, Daniels and Wright were ruled ineligible March 10 after a probe by school and NCAA investigators discovered academic improprieties in the basketball program under former Coach Jim Harrick.

An appeal to reinstate the duo was filed with the NCAA Student-Athlete Eligibility Committee, which granted the appeal.

"I'm extremely happy for Chris and Rashad," new Bulldogs Coach Dennis Felton said. "I have found them to be outstanding young men and this has been a very trying episode in their lives."

The fallout from the academic improprieties cost Harrick his job and the Bulldogs were forced to pull out of the Southeastern Conference and NCAA Tournment.

Daniels averaged 9.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game last season while shooting a team-high 54 percent. Wright averaged 7.8 points and led the team in assists for the third straight year. He needs just 62 assists next season to become the school's all-time leader.
