Serna advances to final at Budapest

BUDAPEST, Hungary, April 19 (UPI) -- Second seed Magui Serna moved a step closer to her second straight tournament triumph Saturday with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Slovakian Ludmila Cervanova in the semifinals of the Budapest Grand Prix.

The 24-year-old Serna coasted to her ninth straight match victory and will face third seed Alicia Molik of Australia on Sunday in the final of the claycourt event.

A native of Spain, Serna won her second career title last weekend when she defeated German qualifier Julia Schruff in the final at Estoril.

In addition to her triumph in Portugal, Serna has reached two other quarterfinals and appeared in the fourth round at Indian Wells this season.

Despite Saturday's loss, Cervanova has played well in recent weeks. She was a semifinalist at Casablanca three weeks ago, followed by a quarterfinal showing at Estoril.

Molik advanced Saturday with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Maria Sanchez Lorenzo of Spain. Molik has won 11 of her last 13 matches and claimed her first title at Hobart in January.
