Alicia Molik earns quarterfinal berth

BUDAPEST, Hungary, April 16 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Australian Alicia Molik cruised to another straight-sets win Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Budapest Grand Prix.

The 22-year-old Molik, who won her first career title at Hobart in January, routed Frenchwoman Stephanie Cohen Aloro, 6-1, 6-2. In the first round, Molik defeated Martina Sucha of Slovakia, 6-1, 6-0.

The other two seeds playing second-round matches Wednesday were ousted.

Maria Sanchez Lorenzo of Spain breezed past sixth-seeded Czech Klara Koukalova, 6-3, 6-1 to advance to a possible meeting with top seed Iva Majoli of Croatia. Slovakian Ludmila Cervanova had an even easier time with Italian eighth seed Antonella Serra Zanetti, 6-1, 6-1.

Majoli had some trouble in her first-round match Wednesday, but got past Romanian lucky loser Andreea Vanc, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5. The 25-year-old Majoli is seeking her ninth career title and next faces Hungarian lucky loser Katalin Marosi.

Second-seeded Magui Serna of Spain also moved into the second round with a 6-4, 6-2 win over German Angelika Roesch.

Argentine qualifier Gisela Dulko and Hungary's Petra Mandula registered upsets in their first-round matches. Dulko overcame Slovakian fourth seed Henrieta Nagyova, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, while Mandula breezed past Spanish seventh seed Cristina Torrens Valero, 6-2, 6-0.
