BOSTON, April 15 (UPI) -- Shea Hillenbrand's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday night lifted the Boston Red Sox to a 6-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
The Devil Rays tied the game in the eighth inning on a two-run single by Marlon Anderson, but Bill Mueller opened the ninth with a walk, went to second on Nomar Garciaparra's single and advanced to third on a fly ball by Manny Ramirez.
With Todd Walker coming in to pinch-hit, Tampa Bay manager Lou Piniella replaced Alan Levine (0-1) with Bobby Seay, who issued a walk to load the bases. Piniella brought in Travis Harper to face Hillenbrand, who drove in the game-winning run with a single up the middle.
Hillenbrand went 4-for-5 with two RBI and Jeremy Giambi drove in two runs for the Red Sox, who have won three of their last four games.
Mike Timlin (2-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings.
Terry Shumpert had a solo homer in the second and Rocco Baldelli singled in a run in the eighth but Tampa Bay lost for the third time in its past four games.
